Legal Impact on media 

When producing digital media , there is a wide range of legislation that affects the production


Some of these are acts of law 


Some of these are legal issues 


freedom of information act , defamation law (slander and libel) , data protection act , intellectual property act , copyright design and patents act 1988, human rights act 


HUMAN rights act - they are the value that keep everyone of us fair just and legal they are protected by a law and some people want to get rid of legal rights European convention of human rights 


Data protection act - a UK based law and every company has to follow 8 key principles as UK companies have to process and store your data fairly and securely by law your data has to be kept accurately and should be for the reason it was collected and as long as needed , should be processed within the UK and should be made available to the data subject and there are websites where I can report if your data has been used 


Copyright - is too protect created content from a person it protect there work from being stolen or used by others for own claim or financial gain the only way to use another person content is too ask for there permission or claim it using funds or commission

All of these items are protected for free 

Copyright will last for some one up to 70 years after you due

If you pay someone to make a copyright for you they own the copyright , they can then transfer to you which will then make it yours 

Design rights 

People by your product because of the way it looks like furniture , jewellery or clothes with design rights 

You cover it world wide 

Design rights even   if you don't register your design it is sometimes automatically applied and it's still cheap even if not free

When a media product is published that contains information about someone that is untrue and damaging to their reputation . This can be in writing , video , imagery or radio 

Rebel Wilson case 

Using bauer media group in May 2015 after making a series of grubby false articles about her  hasn't been in any lead roles for 2 years and people that had her in production dropped her due too all the allocation and leading her to not return for certain rolls as bauer media claim that these are all real leading her too lose millions and they rewarded her 4.5 million dollars for the claim but then took her back too court and reduced it too £600,000 Dollars
